ECHO FALLS, published Jan. 2010/Blanvalet Random Germany, Damm/Norway, AST/Russia.

This novel is the story of Grace Cameron, who inherited a beautiful, waterfront house on New York’s Turtle Island from her grandparents. The house has a romance and wonderful history and weaves a spell over Grace and her two housemates and fellow nurses, Joanne and Cherry. The three women met at Manhattan Hospital, where they all work. Throughout the story, the three women each find love with the most unexpected men and face personal challenges and loss. But, they are always strong for each other and become an indomitable trio.

Grace, a young widow, has resigned herself to a single life until she meets and falls for a patient, Matt Conner, a movie star injured in a stunt while filming in NYC. Grace’s first husband tragically died at a young age, only months after they were married, and the young bride nursed him through his illness and on his deathbed. She vowed that she would never play the role of caretaker for another man again. Grace is content to take her early morning runs along the water, fix up her old house and be the best nurse she can be. Love is not in the cards for her future. However difficult at first, she does resist the charms of Matt Conner, a Brad Pitt-look-alike, when she is asked to be his night nurse as he lies in a coma. It’s a safe relationship; she’s the nurse, he’s unconscious. But when Matt wakes up and the full-blooded, vivacious, irresistibly charming man takes a liking to his pretty nurse, Grace is at odds with herself. At Matt’s request, she even travels to his native Texas, under the guise of being his private nurse. At Matt’s secret romantic hideaway in the Texas hill country, a place called Echo Falls, Grace realizes that her love is not a mere crush. But when Matt’s manager, Michael Lavender, proves to Grace that Matt has a girlfriend in Hollywood, she beats a hasty retreat from Texas, refusing to risk being hurt again. But something doesn’t add up about Lavender’s story, and Joanne and Cherry decide to intervene on their friend’s behalf. There is nothing they won’t do for Grace.

Joanne, addicted to her emotionally abusive husband Donny, has moved in with Grace to figure out if her marriage is worth saving. Donny is a drug–addicted downtown hairdresser who has cheated on his wife one too many times. To soothe her pain, Joanne buys herself a gorgeous shiny new motorcycle. Joanne has faith and loves speed. She is still under the spell of Donny but stops short of stealing drugs for him because she is not ready to cross that criminal line, even though he has no compunction about asking her. Joanne is thrown for a love-loop when she meets The Captain, the solitary, mysterious owner of the local bar, Nightingales, where the women often meet after work. The Captain is a man of the world and has seen a lot and he likes Joanne. He epitomizes the words “strong silent type” and Joanne finds that she is having true feelings for him. Can Joanne escape the clutches of her past and her pathological relationship with Donny or can she free herself to accept the love and graciousness of a true gentleman? With the help of her friends, Joanne frees herself to get what she deserves.

Cherry Bordeaux is a fresh–faced Southern belle whose nursing career is only meant to be a vehicle to marrying a rich, Park Avenue doctor. Cherry knows that renting a room in Grace’s house will be a small pit stop on her road to marriage. She will not end up aged 38 and alone like Grace, nor nearly divorced like Joanne. No, Cherry is intent on meeting Mr. Perfect. Her plans seem to speed up when Rick Nash, gorgeous Dr. McDreamy of Manhattan Hospital, takes her out and they become inseparable. When Cherry experiences every nurse’s worst nightmare and accidentally loses a patient, Rick is there for her, even as she quits the hospital in shame and self-disgust. But then Cherry finds evidence that Rick is really to blame for the death and that he betrayed her in the worst way possible, and it is Grace and Joanne who are there for Cherry to show her the real respect, support, and dignity that she needs. Cherry’s girlfriends help her to start working again and find her real calling. It is her destiny to be a great nurse.

The lives of these three women change drastically over the course of the book, but Turtle Island, the little island only miles away from one of the biggest cities in the world and yet unknown to tourists and most New Yorkers, remains as constant as ever. By the end, we are given a vision of hope and humanity, as the women, and particularly Grace, discover what they really want and what is good for them.

FLEDGLING JASON STEED sold to Sourcebooks- US and Canadian rights and book 2 in the Jason Steed series. Young adult - First in a series, self–published internet hit. A well thought-out plot line, with a lot of character and relationship development, especially between the characters of Jason Steed and his father Ray.

What starts of as a very strenuous father-son relation blossoms into a relationship based on mutual trust and respect by the end of the novel, and it is Jason’s relationship with his father in particular which accounts for so much of his early development into an amazingly talented martial arts performer. It remains an entertaining read, with elements of romantic entanglement, the royal family, warfare, martial arts and the ideas of loyalty and honesty.

The book has gained popularity over the internet, Alex Horowitz type-following. Raving readers’ reviews on Amazon.com. Protagonist compared to a young Jason Bourne, or a young James Bond without the gadgets. Author is currently working on sequel. YA action/adventure – first in a series. Compared to Alex Rider/Anthony Horowitz’s book and young James Bond series.

THE SUDARIUM TRILOGY

A HOLY RELIC, A YOUNG GIRL, A DIABOLICAL EXPERIMENT. A THRILLER FOR OUR TIME. What would happen if one could clone a human being, using the blood of a person from the past? And an even more troubling question: What if one were able to clone Christ from the samples of His blood that some believe still exist in certain holy relics? It’s all possible. So how would the world react?

THE CLOTH OF OVIEDO: BOOK ONE

Sold to SUMA/World Spanish, Philip Wilson/Poland, Hemiro/Russia,SUMA/ Brazil, Metaekdotiki/Greece

'The Sudarium' is a story that keeps the reader on the edge of his seat, even when he has turned the final page, because if some questions are answered in the course of the book, others continue to stick in the mind of whoever picks up this disturbing work." - LA REFORMA (MEXICO)

THE BLOOD OF THE CLOTH: BOOK TWO

Sold to SUMA/World Spanish, Philip Wilson/Poland

The BLOOD OF THE CLOTH picks up the story of THE CLOTH OF OVIEDO twenty years later. The agency for surrogate mothers has been exposed as the front of a ruthless cult, bent on engineering the Second Coming. Hannah, having given birth to the child, has chosen to keep him as her own and has fled the country. In Mexico, where she and her husband, a former priest, finally settle, she has succeeded in bringing up the child in anonymity. She can’t protect him from a treacherous mudslide in the Sierra Gorda mountains, however.

BOUND BY THE CLOTH: BOOK THREE

It is three years later and the cult of this new savior has only increased by means of the Internet (where his existence was first revealed). Blogs devoted to sightings of him, as well as descriptions of the miracles that he has presumably performed, have flourished. A new New Testament is being written. Millions of people wait for him to emerge, raise high the standard and lead them into a new age. But the young man is nowhere to be found. Even his family has no knowledge of where he might be. In BOUND BY THE CLOTH, a thriller that raises profound spiritual questions, the fate of a man is linked inextricably to the survival of his soul. It combines the suspenseful elements of the high-tech adventure story with the equally riveting aspects of a spiritual quest. Underlying the trilogy and serving as its inspiration are the words of an elderly priest who, before dying, expresses his belief that “Every child born on earth has within him the power to save the world or destroy it.”

An erotically charged, elegantly written novel that marks the first publication in English of author Jo Kyung-ran, a literary star in Korea who has earned comparisons to Haruki Murakami.  Emotionally raw and emphatically sensual, Tongue is the story of the demise of an obsessive romance, and a woman’s culinary journey toward self-restoration and revenge. When her boyfriend of seven years leaves her for another woman, the celebrated young chef Jung Ji-won shuts down the cooking school she ran from their home and sinks into deep depression, losing her will to cook, her desire to eat, and even her ability to taste. Returning to the kitchen of the Italian restaurant where her career first began, she slowly rebuilds her life, rediscovering her appreciation of food, both as nourishment and as sensual pleasure. She also starts to devise a plan for a final, vengeful act of culinary seduction.    Tongue is a voluptuous, intimate story of a gourmet relying on her food-centric worldview to emerge from heartbreak; a mesmerizing, delicately plotted novel at once shocking and profoundly familiar.

In the tradition of Wild Swans and The Concubine’s Children, Gold Mountain Blues is the story of five generations of a Chinese family, from the 1860s to the present. The novel relates the struggles and sacrifices of the labourers who built the Canadian Pacific Railway, and the evolution of the modern Chinese-Canadian identity. It is a dramatic Canadian story, says commissioning editor Adrienne Kerr, “that brings us closer to our shared past.” Kerr acquired the novel from New York agent Barbara Zitwer for publication in Canada in 2011.

In China, the novel is nominated for the inaugural Overseas Chinese Literary Award, and is a strong contender for the 2010 Maodun Literary Award. (The Maodun Prize, awarded every five years, is China’s biggest literary prize, equivalent to the Man Booker Prize.)

Author Zhang Ling has an MA in English from University of Calgary and currently lives in Toronto. She was born in 1957 in Hangzhou of Zhejiang Province in China and later moved to Wenzhou wit her parents .She graduated from Fudan University with a Major in English and moved to Canada in 1986.

TAKE CARE OF MY MOTHER. Best-selling novel by award winning Korean novelist. Shin Kyung-sook has been honored with numerous awards including 1996 Manhae Literature Prize, 1997 Dong-in Literature Prize and 2001 Isang Literary Prize.

Take Care of My Mother is attributed as a catalyst for a surge in book sales in Korea. Since it was first published in November 2008, about 700,000 copies have been sold, a mega hit given that it is hard for a novel to sell 100,000 copies in the sagging publishing industry. Take Care of Mother by Shin Kyong-suk is the story of “my mother,” who cannot be replaced by any other mother. Korean readers are wildly excited about this story of an ordinary mother. What sustains this novel is the power of imagination that becomes possible only when our mothers who have been with us all our lives are eliminated from our lives. Take Care of Mother is the story of a family in search of their mother who has disappeared.

Scarlett Stoker

DRACULA IN DIOR

“When other little girls wanted to be ballet dancers I kind of wanted to be a vampire.”
- Angelina Jolie

Vampires have no-one giving them fashion advice- until now.

Written by style expert Scarlett Stoker, ‘Dracula in Dior’ is a classic style advice guide, only this time the beneficiaries are not humans, but vampires.
It’s the ultimate A-Z for the undead – freshly turned and those approaching their 900th birthday- to help them dress for blood soaked success in the 21st century. “
Despite striving for centuries to stay under the radar, vampires today are hotter than an eternity in hell. You might call them our newest rock stars. But pray tell, why have we fallen so hopelessly in love with these beasts who walk the night consumed with bloodlust?
Five words. Sexy. Seductive. Insatiable. Mysterious. Passionate.
Admit it, who among us doesn’t dream of finding a man or woman who fits that description?
Yes, it is quite true vampires are also are undead. Yes, they sleep in coffins and harbor an unquenchable thirst for blood. Your blood.
Well, raise your hand if you don’t have any character quirks others might find a little surprising at first. Thank you.
Though fashionably thin (there isn’t a woman alive who doesn’t envy a vampire’s 22 inch waist and ability to say no to food) and fashionably late (midnight is their favorite hour to arrive anywhere) vampires do suffer from one fashion related deficit.
They are not fashionable. Here they are, roaming the earth among us in their black capes, velvet gowns, pasty faces and bloodshot eyes, a look that hasn’t been updated in forever. Then you have those younger vampires who favor ripped jeans, T shirts, and beaten up leather jackets, another fashion cliché.
So popular, so lusted after, and yet so clueless when it comes to dressing. The names Dior, Balenciaga, Prada and Calvin Klein mean nothing to them, and yet they should! Mark Twain once wrote that clothes make the man. And should they not also make the man who lives for all eternity?
Yet for vampires a style upgrade is about more than glamour and raising self esteem, both things fashion has the power to do. It’s about staying alive and yet, undead. Many vampires were born centuries before this one, and are not only unaware of the latest fashion trends but of the latest research into the meaning and importance of dressing in a person’s life. Simply put, the better you look, the more friends you make, the more people one knows in every strata of society, the more opportunity to …feed.
God knows if the devil can wear Prada, it is time for Dracula to don Dior.

GENE-I- US: How Ideas Made Us Human

Sold to Free Press,US (we handle l US rights and German rights only)

If a quarter of a million year-old human being sat next to you on the bus, you wouldn’t bat an eyelid. Humans have not changed physically for over 250,000 years. The gene pool of our species may have blended and mixed, but it hasn’t altered significantly in all that time. That’s because, unlike every other species on the planet, we’ve managed quite unwittingly to disengage ourselves from Nature’s big project – Natural Selection. The environment, the great outdoors, nolonger decides which of our genes make it through to the next generation. These days, we live indoors, apart from biological evolution, free to do all the things that satisfy our selves, not our genes, (such as watching football, using a condom, growing stubbornly beyond reproductive age, or ending it all). Humankind has grown beyond its genes.

Few people have studied Axl Rose, as Wall as done. Travelling with Guns n’ Roses and writing about them in the late 1980’ and early 1990’s, Wall first earned Axl’s trust and later his fury. This book takes us from the past to the present, to explore why a new Guns n’ Roses still hasn’t toured up to the present, and the status of “ Chinese Democracy,” now over a decade in the making at the cost of over 13 million dollars. W.A.R. is about great music, fracutured relationships, and the public and private personas of one of the most controversial performers of our time.
